In another tweet posted about two hours earlier on Friday morning, Trump, for the second consecutive day, went directly after DOJ's Russian Federation probe, which now includes an examination of whether the president obstructed justice when asking Comey to drop a probe of his first national security adviser, Michael Flynn, or by firing Comey.

"You are witnessing the single greatest WITCH HUNT in American political history - led by some very bad and conflicted people!" he said in an early morning tweet on Thursday. Rosenstein is overseeing the investigation into Russian meddling, though it is being spearheaded by a special prosecutor, Robert Mueller.

"I'm growing increasingly concerned that the President will attempt to fire not only Robert Mueller, the special counsel investigating possible obstruction of justice, but also Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein who appointed Mueller", warned Sen.

A memorandum penned by Rosenstein was cited by the Trump White House as the inspiration for the May ouster of James Comey, then-director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The newspaper noted Mueller had requested interviews with CIA Director Dan Coats, National Security Agency chief Michael Rogers and Richard Ledgett, the former NSA deputy director. The intelligence committee is the lead congressional panel on the Russian Federation hacking scandal, including highly publicized hearings with fired FBI Director James Comey and Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Trump slammed the development as political witch hunt.

On Friday, the President made extraordinary claims against Clinton and her family for their own alleged dealings with Russian Federation, claiming smashed a phone with a hammer and "bleached" emails to cover their tracks.

The FBI and Congress are both looking at whether Trump campaign officials colluded with the alleged Kremlin plot.

The move was confirmed by a transition official who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss post-election decisions.

It culminated in a tweet Friday from President Donald Trump.

The president did not directly address allegations that he is being probed for possibly obstructing justice - a potentially impeachable offense.

Trump did not respond to shouted questions from the media as he was leaving the White House lawns to board Marine One for the Joint Andres Air Force Base for his day-long trip to Florida.
