Georgia congressman calls shooting 'senseless act of evil'

Sleep has been tough to come by this week for Congressman Barry Loudermilk. He said it was about 7:15 when the gunman began firing from outside the fence along the third-base line of the field. But also we need to look at security detail. My inclination is I'm going to see what those guys are doing, because that would tell me they heard this gunshot too. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., screamed at one of them.

Those on the field spotted the gun and ran.

"I don't know why I made a decision to try to get on the road by ten after seven, instead of seven thirty", he added.

"I'm making the assumption", Duncan said, "he was targeting Republicans".

"I'm running, and I mean, dirt is flying up from the bullets hitting the ground", he added.

"He was targeting us".

"He never shot at any of the civilians out there". "He had a rifle". Chuck Fleischmann (R-TN), one of nearly two dozen Republicans who were getting ready for Wednesday's Congressional baseball game.

A Republican congressman is calling for legislation to allow members of Congress to carry firearms after a shooter this week targeted GOP lawmakers.

Not knowing exactly where the shooter was amid the gunfire, Loudermilk dove behind a wooden storage building just outside the fence.

Throughout Wednesday's events, Loudermilk said his focus was "keeping cool, calm and staying where I could try to help people to safety".

Loudermilk hid from the gunman, believed to be IL resident James Hodgkinson, behind a wooden shack.

Massie told the Times that Norton "may seek to prevent her constituents from exercising their right to self-defense, but she lacks constitutional authority to deny that right to all those who visit the nation's capital". Loudermilk said he would play. In suits and with guns drawn, they returned fire.

Loudermilk, however, referenced gun laws in Washington that are comparatively stricter. He had been shot in the chest. The Facebook account appears to have been deleted after the shooting. He had a clear shot at him.

'Team Scalise' unites as lawmaker remains in critical condition
A motive for the attack is still under investigation, the FBI and other law enforcement agencies said in a statement Friday. Lobbyist Matt Mika was shot multiple times and critically injured and remained hospitalized.

He added: 'It's got all the punch you need'. "He'd lost a lot of blood", he said. The congressman knelt down and prayed with him as paramedics flooded the area, scrambling to treat six different people - including the shooter.

"It's not bad", Barth assured him.

Loudermilk soon after the incident went back to the field to find Scalise still lying there. "It didn't when Gabby got shot".

More officers arrived, flushing the gunman from his cover. We spread across the field and locked arms. Why?

"For us to have a rule ... that you can't have security cameras in your offices unless you pay for them with your campaign - I just found that out this morning - or you can't have security stuff in your homes?"

"We're not any more special than anybody else, but we are targets", said Loudermilk.

"If this would've happened in Georgia, he wouldn't have gotten very far".

The congressman said he had a staffer with him who "back in Georgia carries a 9 mm in his vehicle", adding "he had a clear shot at him, but here we're not allowed to carry any weapons". If he was in Georgia, he would have a 9mm with him.

"Most of us are here in D.C., so how do you have the gun here and just transport it to Virginia?" stated Loudermilk. "They probably think a lot of things about me that are totally false". He was listed in critical condition Wednesday night at a Washington hospital, which said he will require several more operations. "If that ever happens again, I want to be able to shoot back".

Some on social media attempted to explain it.

The situation at the congressional baseball practice ended because of a gun in good hands, Fuhrman reiterated. "I hope that all Americans will join me in condemning this senseless act of violence against innocent lives". He said he was about 10 feet away from a Capitol Police SUV and a victim suffering from a gunshot wound. David Perdue, R-Ga., said Wednesday morning during an appearance on the Fox Business network. Two officers were among those wounded in the shooting. So when inside the beltway will there be Capitol Police details handling this?

"If Scalise hadn't been on our team, it would have been really bad", he told reporters, according to the Washington Examiner.
