As Russia probe expands, Trump appears to confirm he's under investigation

This tweet is significant because it seems to confirm an anonymously sourced June 14 Washington Post report on that said special counsel Robert Mueller is looking into the possibility that Trump obstructed justice in the Russian Federation investigation.

President Trump confirmed Friday that he is under investigation for firing FBI Director James Comey. "Witch Hunt", the President wrote in his tweet. The investigation expanded this week and now includes possible obstruction of justice by the president as well as possible financial crimes by Trump associates.

Mr Rosenstein has said privately he may need to recuse himself from matters relating to the Russian Federation probe because he could become a witness in the investigation, ABC News reported on Friday.

If Rosenstein were out of the picture, responsibility for overseeing Mueller's investigation - and deciding his fate - would fall to Rachel Brand, the department's associate attorney general.

Former FBI head Robert Mueller was appointed as special counsel a day after a report stemming from the notes was published.

In other words: the slate of dirty tricks that US intelligence agencies say Russia's spy services pulled on the United States, including cyberattacks on elections systems and American political figures and some of their top aides.

The memo, from the transition team's general counsel's office, is another indication that Mueller is casting a wide net in his inquiry into possible collusion between Trump's campaign and Moscow.

In testimony before Congress on Tuesday, Rosenstein vowed to "defend the integrity" of the special counsel investigation, including by refusing any order to fire Mueller without justification. The White House confirmed that Mr. Mueller was among the candidates Mr. Trump interviewed for the Federal Bureau of Investigation post.

But the people briefed on the president's thinking said Trump also knows that firing Rosenstein would be politically unsafe.

The "Gotham" star concluded her bashing by tweeting, "The reimagining of my relationship to Pac has been deeply hurtful". The actress then reached out to Shipp and Graham, telling them the issues she has with the film are "no fault of yours".

In the same interview the President suggested that he was thinking about the Russian Federation investigation at the time he terminated Comey. But then Rosenstein made the surprise move to appoint Robert Mueller as special counsel to lead the Russian Federation investigation, a development that people close to Sessions and Trump believe has worsened matters for everyone involved.

Top Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein expressed concern that Trump may try to fire both Mueller and Rosenstein, warning "he's in for a rude awakening" if he thinks he can shut down the investigation.

Ian Prior, a Justice Department spokesman, said that Rosenstein "has said numerous times, if there comes a point when he needs to recuse, he will". Oh, that and Trump is now personally under investigation for obstruction of justice.

The Republican leader also lashed out at the Justice Department's number two, the man tasked with organising the probe. "The Department of Justice has a long-established policy to neither confirm nor deny such allegations", Rosenstein said in his statement.

Yet Trump's angry tweets on Friday underscored the near-impossible challenge his advisers and legal team have in trying to get him to avoid weighing in on an active probe.

Boente, however, was nominated by former President Barack Obama and his U.S. attorney's office has already been leading parts of the federal investigation.

The White House has directed questions for details to outside legal counsel, which has not responded.

Vice-President Mike Pence on Thursday hired a private lawyer to represent his interests in the expanding probe.
