The top ethics lawyer to former President George W. Bush warned on Saturday that if President Trump fires special counsel Robert Mueller, Vice President Pence "will soon become the 46th President".
In a perplexing series of Friday-morning tweets, President Donald Trump appeared to confirm that he is under investigation by the FBI and levelled a scathing attack against the officials leading the inquiry.
CNN, however, referenced an unnamed "person familiar with Trump's tweet" who said the president was referring to news reports claiming he is under investigation for obstructing justice.
In a series of tweets, Trump lashed out against the investigation into whether his campaign colluded with Russian Federation to influence the 2016 election.

Earlier this month, Rosenstein told The Associated Press that "if anything that I did winds up being relevant to his investigation then, as Director Mueller and I discussed, if there's a need from me to recuse, I will".
In a tweet, the president also seemed to accuse the United States deputy attorney general of pursuing a "Witch Hunt".

Although he didn't name anyone, Trump appeared to be pointing the finger at Rod Rosenstein, the deputy attorney general who began overseeing the Russian Federation investigation after Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from it.
It's yet another tweet that's unleashed intense media speculation... a presidential post of less than 140 characters. If Trump is confirming the existence of an investigation targeting him, it would represent an extraordinary development less than five months into his presidency.
Trump and his allies have suggested Mueller's independence may be tainted because of his friendship with Comey - who admitted to Congress that he made disclosures with the intention of getting Rosenstein to appoint a special counsel - as well as his hiring of Democrats to assist in the investigation.
The Trump administration initially said Mr Rosenstein's letter was the reason the President fired Mr Comey on May 9, but Mr Trump later said he did so because of the "Russia thing".
