Scalise underwent another surgery on Saturday and "continues to show signs of improvement", MedStar Washington Hospital Center said in a statement.
Scalise was one of several people shot by suspect James T. Hodgkinson ― a 66-year-old resident of IL ― who targeted a GOP team baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia, on Wednesday.
The shooter, James T. Hodgkinson, was killed by police Wednesday after firing dozens of bullets during the congressional practice session.
Scalise, the number three Republican in the House of Representatives, arrived at the hospital in a critical state, facing "an imminent risk of death", according to Sava.
Mr Mika's family said he was still in intensive care but was able to communicate through notes - and had signed the game ball from Friday's congressional baseball game.
What's behind Qatar's diplomatic crisis?
The IRINN TV news channel also reported the incident, quoting local sources from Boushehr province. Turkey has been siding with Qatar and pushing for a settlement through dialogue.
Colleagues who visited Scalise, including House Speaker Paul Ryan, sounded generally upbeat, but spoke more in terms of hopes than the confident predictions of the immediate aftermath a day earlier.
The person says investigators aren't sure of the significance of the names and it's not clear whether this was a list of people the attacker was targeting. The bullet that struck Scalise "travelled across his pelvis, fracturing bones, injuring internal organs, and causing severe bleeding", his doctors said. He added that Scalise would be in the hospital "for some time" and would need "a period of healing and rehabilitation" after being discharged. He remains in critical condition.
The Scalise family also said they greatly appreciate the outpouring of thoughts and prayers for the wounded congressman.
"I think that an excellent recovery is a good possibility", Dr. Jack Sava, director of trauma at MedStar Washington Hospital Center said at a news conference Friday afternoon. Capitol Police officer David Bailey and Texas Rep. Roger Williams were also injured during the incident. His family said in a statement he was showing "positive results" and was expected to make a full recovery.
