Harvey and her daughter, originally from Maryland, were in the airports's atrium when the woman allegedly asked a random couple to watch the girl while she went shopping. Officers were notified about the child around 7:15 a.m. and have been performing a multi-state search for Harvey ever since.

'Why this child was left in the airport for all this time, unattended, is concerning, ' Atlanta Police Sgt Warren Pickard said.

Police said she still may be driving the white Nissan Versa with Florida tag HKNA25 which she rented at the airport.

Atlanta police officers are investigating the case and believe Miranda Harvey skipped town after renting a vehicle.

Jeff Immelt, chief executive officer of USA conglomerate General Electric (GE.N), tweeted: "Climate change is real". He said it was steady, principled American leadership on the world stage that made that achievement possible.

Why the Maryland mom chose to drive to Atlanta also remains unclear. The unidentified 4-year-old girl was placed in police custody until relatives could be reached to come to Atlanta and assume at least the temporary care of the child.

It is not known what Harvey's motives are, where was headed to, or what ties - if any - she has to Atlanta.

Harvey is described as being 5-foot-2, 135 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

Maranda Hakimi Harvey, 30, was located at an Athens hotel, Athens-Clarke County police said.
