Trump agreed Wednesday not to directly engage on Comey, and by the time the ousted Federal Bureau of Investigation director took the witness stand, tweeting "was not something he was considering", one senior White House official said.

After the hearing, the president's personal lawyer issued a statement rejecting much of Mr Comey's allegations.

Earlier this week Mr Comey gave evidence before a US Senate hearing about Mr Trump and his alleged links with Russian Federation.

"The president's new at this".

Mr Comey arranged the leak on May 15th after he was sacked and after the May 3rd hearing so it would not be in direct conflict with that testimony.

Karl, it seems, is one of those Fake News Network Killers-"Remember how nice you used to be before I ran?" The committee also sent a letter to Comey asking for any notes or memos in his possession about the discussions he had with Trump before being abruptly fired last month.

"No collusion, no obstruction", Trump told a White House press conference in reference to the twin controversies dogging his administration - accusations his aides colluded with the Russian effort to tilt the vote, and that he sought to block a probe related to the matter. She called Comey an "honorable individual".

"I found him to be credible, candid and thorough", Collins said of Comey on MSNBC's "Morning Joe".

Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, recommended that the committee investigate "all matters relating to obstruction of justice and use its subpoena authority if necessary," after testimony in the Senate Intelligence Committee earlier in the week from Comey and four other current intelligence chiefs.

Gunman who shot Republican congressman had history of railing against GOP
Three others, a GOP congressional aide, a USA capitol police officer and a lobbyist were also injured by gunfire. Exasperated and seemingly at a loss to explain the shooting, she said: "I don't know anything about this".

"Despite so many false statements and lies, total and complete vindication ... and WOW, Comey is a leaker!" Is the president tacitly acknowledging that he did tell Comey to do that?

The almost three-hour testimony is a treasure trove of gold nuggets for reporters, bloggers and law professors, all of whom have been debating for months on what it really means to obstruct justice. And special counsel Robert Mueller's team will conduct a criminal investigation that, based on Mueller's reputation, likely won't produce many leaked tidbits or updates to the outside world.

What Comey did allege was that Trump defamed and pressured him during a series of meetings to nix the Flynn investigation.

Still, there was no doubt the veteran lawman made for a challenging adversary.

Trump went on to add that, "there'd be nothing wrong if I did say it", referring to an ask to let the Flynn investigation go.

"One-hundred percent", Trump said.

"I'm not hinting at anything", Trump said, but then he teased, "You'll be very disappointed".

The president also appears to accuse Comey of lying under oath and carrying out an unauthorized leak. Asked if he would make that denial under oath, he said, "100 percent".
