Susan Collins To Trump: Release The Tapes

Donald Trump has accused sacked Federal Bureau of Investigation chief James Comey of being "cowardly" and acting "totally illegally".

In an interview on Fox News, Trump Jr. said President Donald Trump was "vindicated" by Comey's admission that when he left the FBI, the bureau wasn't specifically investigating the president in the probe into potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation during the 2016 election.

Trump had threatened Comey on Twitter with "tapes" of their conversations when accounts of their talks had begun to appear in the media.

King said either his House Intelligence Committee or the House Judiciary Committee will look into whether Comey broke the law when he admittedly leaked his Trump meeting memos to a friend, who then released them to the New York Times.

He also called Comey a "leaker," a day after the hearing. Hey I hope this happens, but you've got to do your job.' That's what he told Comey.

But on Friday, Trump's personal lawyer Marc Kasowitz issued a statement to the Washington Post saying the president never even suggested Comey drop his Flynn investigation.

Mr Comey interpreted Mr Trump's "hope" as a direction but did not relay it to the agency, in the fear of it having a "chilling effect" on their work. The details came from meticulous notes that Comey compiled after each of the encounters, and Comey said he did not pass along any classified information. "I don't think that should continue".

"Well, I didn't say that", Trump said. "But I did not say that".

Some legal experts have said the president would have been well within his constitutional powers to ask the FBI director to stop, or start, an investigation if he did indeed do that.

"I hardly know the man".

"I'll tell you about that maybe sometime in the very near future", Trump told reporters, adding that "you're going to be very disappointed when you hear the answer".

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), a member of the Senate Intelligence and Judiciary committees, stated flatly today that she found Comey far more believable than Trump on the question of whether the president intentionally tried to derail the investigation of Flynn's dealings with the Russians.
