France remakes White House video on climate deal

French President Emmanuel Macron blasted President Trump Thursday for pulling the US out of the Paris climate agreement and offered a "second homeland" to those who are disappointed by the decision.

They signed an open letter as part of the Mayors National Climate Action Agenda to "adopt, honor and uphold Paris Climate Agreement goals". "And perhaps most important, new coal plants in the USA aren't economically feasible right now, due to lower costs of other forms of energy", Robertson said. Trump was already working to scrap two of the main ways that former President Barack Obama had planned to reduce greenhouse gases to meet the USA targets: his regulations doubling the gas mileage standards for US vehicles and the "Clean Power Plan", a series of Obama EPA regulations aimed at reducing emissions from coal-fired power plants.

The US Conference of Mayors, an umbrella group for leaders of the 1,200 American cities with 30,000 or more inhabitants, issued a call to action similar to that of the tri-state alliance.

A spokeswoman for the Chinese foreign ministry, Hua Chunying, said China was ready to take a leading role in the fight against climate change.

In the Rose Garden on Thursday, Trump and members of his administration pitched the decision to leave the Paris agreement as an economic one and did not dwell on the environmental implications.

"India signed the Paris agreement not because of pressure from any country nor greed".

But Trump argued Thursday that the Paris pact will cost Americans jobs, particularly in industries such as coal mining, steel production and auto manufacturing.

Sessions: Nothing Improper About 2016 Meetings With Russian Ambassador
Instead, Sessions cited "longstanding" Justice Department policy as his reason for declining to comment. The meeting was one of 25 meetings with foreign ambassadors Sessions held in 2016, Sessions said.

The American Coal Council said more than 90 percent of USA coal plants are equipped with advanced emissions controls, and that advances in technology will lead to further improvement. But critics of his move pointed out that renewable energy industries, particularly solar, are creating hundreds of thousands of jobs - far more than now exist in coal.

"We Are Still In" represents the most serious attempt yet by local officials, business executives, and private-sector leaders to buck the Trump administration's decision, which sent political shockwaves around the world. The global effort to curb climate change and address its impacts can not be postponed. For example, the USA version asserts that the climate deal "undermines US competitiveness and jobs".

"The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make USA manufacturing non-competitive", Trump wrote in a November 2012 tweet. John Barrasso, R-Wyoming, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, and Sen.

"In order to achieve Paris in full and deliver a low emissions, resilient and more secure future for every man, woman and child, it is very encouraging to see that all actors reaffirm their willingness to work together", Espinosa said.

Environmental groups said Trump's decision is foolish.

He said his own foundation will help coordinate the USA effort, which will be called America's Pledge, and it will help submit "nationally determined contributions" like other nations.
