Daily revision of fuel prices begins today

Despite petrol pump dealers calling off their nationwide strike scheduled for Friday, dealers in the state have made a decision to express their discontent over daily revision of petroleum prices. Effective today, fuel prices will be revised on a daily basis, and the rates will change at 6:00 a.m. depending on the movement in the cost of the previous day.

The company has also cut prices of petrol by Rs 1.12 per litre and that of diesel by Rs 1.24 litre (excluding state levies). The move is expected to allow oil companies to be in sync with global oil prices.

International Olympic Committee said daily revision of retail selling price of petrol and diesel on pilot basis was implemented in Chandigarh, Jamshedpur, Puducherry District, Udaipur and Visakhapatnam from May 1.

Indian Oil has announced arrangements towards a seamless transition to daily price revisions, from the fortnightly revision system followed earlier. Indian Oil Corporation CMD Sanjay Singh has said the OMCs are in the process of revising CNG price on a daily basis. "The daily price revision is an initiative for ensuring the best possible prices to the customers as well as improved transparency in the pricing mechanism", Indian Oil said in a 12 June statement. The prices will change every morning and dealers should sell the fuels at the fixed prices.

Consumers need to send an SMS to fetch the current rates applicable at a dealer. You can download the Indian Oil app on both the Apple store and Google play store.

Indian Oil has set up a customer care helpline 1800-2333-555 to lodge grievances related to daily price revision.

Currently, only 20 percent of the petrol pumps are automated. Prices will also be communicated to dealers by four modes: customised SMSes, e-mails, mobile app and web portal for dealers.
