Trump Jr. argued Saturday that Comey was being disingenuous in his description of the meeting.
The interviewer, Fox News anchor Jeanine Pirro, reportedly attended a baby shower with Lara Trump, the wife of Eric Trump, later that day.
Should the president's actions be perceived as an obstruction of justice, this could lay the ground for impeachment proceedings, though Mr Comey stopped short of stating that the president had obstructed justice, saying it was a matter for special counsel Robert Mueller.
"However, on March 2, 2017, the Attorney General's Chief of Staff sent the attached email specifically informing Mr. Comey and other relevant Department officials of the recusal and its parameters, and advising that each of them instruct their staff "not to brief the Attorney General. about, or otherwise involve the Attorney General.in, any matters described", stated DOJ's statement".
