World No. 47 Ostapenko is the first unseeded player to lift the Roland Garros title in the Open era and the first Latvian major champion in history.
Again refusing to rein in her aggression, Ostapenko stormed through the final five games seemingly breaking Halep at will.
No 3 seed Halep defended her serve staunchly to take a 5-4 lead, a moment which felt important as Ostapenko's blistering assault threatened to waver.
The men's doubles category was also bound to see the crowning of new title winners as the unseeded pairs of New Zealander Michael Venus and Amercian Ryan Harrison went face to face with Mexican Santiago Gonzalez and American Donald Young. But she was unfazed, hitting 54 winners in a 4-6 6-4 6-3 victory to become the first Latvian ever to win a grand slam singles crown. "Then I stayed aggressive and the match turned in my way", commented Ostapenko.
"Of course, there will be more pressure but I will try and deal with it".
Also seeing her first success at a WTA tournament, Ostapenko was the first player to win the French Open final from a set down since 1991, according to the Women's Tennis Association (WTA).
"I think I can not believe I am the Roland Garros champion and I'm only 20 years of age", Ostapenko said.
Her daughter has taken her by surprise by winning a grand slam so early in her career, but she recalled how it was a triumph 10 years in the making. "I think it's going to be a little bit hard but I chose to be a tennis player, that's my career, so I should be fine with that".
Rangers: Caixinha in talks with duo
A deal for Mexico global Carlos Pena is also in the pipeline, if a work permit can be obtained for the Chivas striker. Meanwhile, Rangers are understood to be closing in on the appointment of a new director of football.
Time will tell whether Ostapenko can be that player, but Jakovleva needs no convincing.
"I'd say I have a pretty long way to go there", said Vondrousova recently, attempting to play down any comparisons.
The 25-year-old Halep was denied her first major championship and the No. 1 world ranking for the first time. When she drilled a final backhand victor down the line, Ostapenko dropped her racket to the clay and held her arms aloft in delight and disbelief. And also I think my character is like that.
Contrastingly, for all her inexperience, playing in what will now be forever regarded as her career-defining match, this was one aspect in which Ostapenko didn't falter, proving herself to be a champion in equanimity in tandem with the scoreline.
With victories here over Olympic gold medallist Monica Puig, US Open victor Sam Stosur, former world No 1 Caroline Wozniacki, Timea Bacsinszky and Halep, Ostapenko is no fluker.
"The first year [of juniors] I did not really understand how to play on grass". [But] I'm really powerful and I was just born with that power probably. "That's unbelievable. There's not so many players like that". Even though Halep was successful in capitalising on Ostapenko's errors in the first set to gain an advantage, Ostapenko gave her no momentum to do so in the final stages of the game, even as she continued to drill her forehands and backhands at angles to either move Halep far out of position or to hit outright winners.
Staving off more break points in the fourth and sixth games, the Latvian firebrand suddenly exploded to win six of the next seven games to level the match.
"I would like to win all of the Grand Slams".
