The security services are facing questions over how they monitor potential threats after one of the men who took part in the London Bridge attack was revealed to be a known extremist.

In a letter posted outside, the Ummah Fitness Centre said staff would "help the police in any way we can" as investigators try to learn more about Khuram Shazad Butt. British police say they found an eighth victim of Saturday's attack.

Butt's neighbors also said that he had previously worked for a branch of the fast food chain KFC, as well as London transport operator Transport for London (TfL).

As the Two-Way has reported, the three attackers opened their assault on London Bridge by ramming pedestrians, then left the vehicle on foot and began stabbing people in nearby Borough Market. The three men also wore fake suicide vests.

After three deadly attacks in less than three months, police said they could hardly keep tabs on 3,000 people on the terror watch list and 20,000 who have been on the intelligence radar in the past, even with sweeping new surveillance laws, particularly for online communications.

The Islamic State terror group has claimed responsibility for the massacre, which sparked fears that Britain is in the grip of a wave of copycat incidents.

Tributes are being paid to the people killed in the attacks on London Bridge and Borough Market as details of the victims emerge. They included seven women and five men who were arrested following the attack, while a 55-year-old man and 53-year-old woman arrested at the same address in Barking have been released.

All three London Bridge terrorists have been identified as a security service probe into the atrocity looms and questions mount for the police and MI5.

Prime Minister Theresa May, who called the snap election in hopes of strengthening her mandate for discussions over Britain's exit from the European Union, has come under fire for the cuts to police numbers in recent years.

"We are so proud of Kirsty's fearless actions which demonstrate how selfless, caring and heroic she was, not only on that night, but throughout all of her life".

Foreign affairs minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said that a French citizen was killed in the attack, although he is yet to be named.

The visible police presence remains, however - as does the memory of the attack in the minds of British voters, just one day before the country undertakes its national elections.

The number of police officers in England and Wales fell by nearly 20,000 between 2010 and 2016 - years when May, as home secretary, was in charge of policing.

His mother said: "Last year, when I visited him in England, he was cold and distant and I understood from his look that he became radicalised about Islam and its values". Seven people were killed and dozens wounded.
