President Donald Trump on Friday claimed "total and complete vindication" after ousted FBI Director James Comey said he was not personally under investigation in a probe into Russian interference in last year's USA election.
A defiant President Donald Trump said Friday he was willing to testify under oath about his conversations with James Comey, further fueling the swirling controversy ignited by the fired Federal Bureau of Investigation director's bombshell testimony before the Senate on Thursday.
But Mr Trump insisted during a press conference with Romania's President Klaus Werner Iohannis that Mr Comey lied in some parts of the testimony he gave to the Senate intelligence committee, and asserted that nothing in his testimony showed collusion with Russian Federation or obstruction of justice.
Mr Trump also seized on Mr Comey's revelation that he had directed a friend to release memos he'd written documenting his conversations with the president to a reporter.
He portrayed Trump as a chief executive dismissive of the FBI's independence and made clear that he interpreted Trump's request to end an investigation into his former national security adviser as an order coming from the president.
Comey said Thursday the president's tweet that said Comey "better hope that there are no "tapes" of their conversations had compelled him to share a memo he wrote.
The president claimed Comey's testimony on Thursday before the Senate Intelligence Committee mostly vindicated his previous claims about their interactions.
No the president, who I want to point out is a colossal dumbass liar that will say anything because he doesn't give a shit about anyone, responded that the public will be disappointed with his answer and we all know why: He's a fucking liar and a frightful person! and, there is no there, there!
Battlefield 1 In The Name Of The Tsar Trailer Revealed
Coming up this month though, Battlefield 1's first night-only map Nivelle Nights will roll out free to Premium Pass players. Smells like an attempted eSports thing to me, and more details about whatever that is are coming at GamesCom, apparently.
"No collusion, no obstruction, he's a leaker", Trump said during a Rose Garden news conference, knocking Comey for disseminating the content of a memo he kept on a dinner he had with the President.
Kasowitz also suggested Comey should be prosecuted for leaking "privileged information".
The president also recirculated another defence of his actions posted on Twitter by Alan Dershowitz, a Harvard Law School professor emeritus who has advised the Trump team on Middle Eastern policy.
The president declined repeatedly to say whether, as he suggested last month in a tweet, he had recordings of his conversations with Mr Comey. "I will tell you about it over a very short period of time", Trump said, twice declining to elaborate.
Bondi said she's not ready to say Comey committed a crime by leaking the memo, but it certainly demands an investigation. "I hope you can let this go", Mr Comey reported the President as saying in a February 14 meeting.
Trump wrote earlier on Friday on Twitter that the former FBI head had vindicated him by telling the Senate Intelligence Committee that the president had not been personally under investigation in the Russian Federation probe. "I'm going to open an investigation against you" - that's clearly witness intimidation, and that itself is obstruction of justice", Painter said.
He also offered a blunt assessment Friday of Comey's testimony before the Senate intelligence panel. "I respect the opinion of those who think he should come".
