Siri vs. Alexa vs. Google Assistant: Apple Struggling With Privacy Concerns

Opening too much too soon when it comes to APIs, however, could spoil that experience and Apple is not willing to take that risks. The Google Home runs around $130, the Amazon Echo at $180 and the HomePod makes its debut at $349.

Apple is jumping into the connected home speaker market, announcing the HomePod this week. The speaker features seven beam-forming tweeters, an up-facing woofer, a six-microphone array with echo cancellation, and room-sensing technology to tailor the sound based on room placement. Early buzz indicates the audio is pretty great, and with a price point of $350, it better be. Amazon got in first with the Echo, which is the most versatile system. Meanwhile the Google Home is £129 here in the UK.

Of course, just because the Cupertino brand focused on the HomePod's speaker qualities instead of its "smart" characteristics doesn't mean Siri didn't get some time in the spotlight. Siri, a digital assistant that has been on Apple's iPhone since 2011, will be voice activated to respond to requests for information and other help around the house. Many are placing their bets on artificial intelligence, ranging from software that one day may be smart enough to chat back and forth like a human, or computer vision that identifies real-world objects so well it can power the first fully-functioning self-driving vehicle.

Which is the best in-home Smart Assistant Among the three? With Google, their devices use Google Assistant, and Apple's recently launched HomePod is powered by Siri.

The Home and Echo also include mute buttons.

Other details of Constand's account also shifted in statements to police and in a deposition during her civil lawsuit in 2005. Agrusa has suggested that Constand once enjoyed a romantic dinner by the fire at Cosby's home before the alleged assault.

Tech reviewers, analysts, and Apple fans have started falling heads over heels in love with the HomePod. All of this is controlled by Apple's custom-made A8 chip. "If you want to stream anything else, you can use another device and stream it to the speaker via AirPlay 2, which will arrive this fall in iOS 11", adds Mashable. Before Monday's updates, the Siri assistant was still mostly a glorified web search that could tell the occasional pre-programmed joke.

Impressive stuff, but it's far from clear that smart speakers represent the same kind of breakthrough that smartphones did. Apple already tried to sell users a high-end speaker with the short-lived Apple iPod Hi-Fi, and it did not go well. Amazon, for example, sold more than 11 million Echo devices from mid-2015 to December 1, 2016, according to estimates from Morgan Stanley analysts, who calculated statistics from before the latest holiday season. That's one hell of an ecosystem to birth from thin air.

Apple isn't going to budge from its $349 price later this year, but it's a safe bet that Amazon and Alphabet will be aggressive around Black Friday. And sales are only expected to climb in the coming years.

We don't know how good the microphones on the HomePod are, though Phil Schiller suggested that they're excellent, able to understand you across the room at a normal voice while music is playing. The HomePod is not expected to ship until December 2017, and it will cost $349, that is almost twice as the Echo ($179) and Google Home ($129) and is expensive. It's hard to say. The company trying to make up ground on its competitors.

The HomePod speaker looks to combine sound quality and voice control to compete with rivals such as Amazon and Google.
