The First Minister's bombshell claim suggests that Jeremy Corbyn's party could help the SNP set up a re-run of the vote on separation.
"Nicola Sturgeon wants a referendum in 16 months' time".

It is being fought on a specific Scottish issue - independence - and voting preferences are being influenced by the question of a second referendum.

To say the least, Scottish Labour's team have found that vexing.
"Kezia Dugdale has spent this campaign claiming she opposes a second independence referendum, now we learn she's been having private chats with Nicola Sturgeon about her support for it".
For the SNP, the worry is less about Labour losing nationally than Labour's performance in Scotland. I do not see the urgency or the need for an independence referendum.

And in the Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire seat at Holyrood seat, being contested at a by-election, Alex Salmond's sister Gail Hendry faces the daunting task of trying to overturn the 7,736-vote majority Mr Lamont secured for the Tories over the SNP a year ago.
"If you lend the SNP your vote to keep the Tories out then you can be assured that you will be electing SNP MPs who might not agree with him on everything, but who agree with Jeremy Corbyn on more than Kezia Dugdale and Scottish Labour agree with Jeremy Corbyn".
