Jordan Expels Qatari Ambassador, Trump Praises Cutting Ties

In a phone call to the Qatari Emir, Trump offered to help broker peace following the diplomatic rift that emerged Monday when serval Arab nations cut ties with Doha.

Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Adel al-Jubeir. "The embassy of India is monitoring the situation closely and is in touch with the Qatari authorities to ensure the safety and security of Indian nationals in Qatar", an official statement said.

The FBI has sent a team of investigators to Qatar because they believe that Russian hackers are responsible for planting a fake news report that has led to the crisis in which all diplomatic ties to Qatar have been severed by Saudi Arabia and numerous other Gulf nations, according to a CNN report.

The group said the list shows Qatar "announces fighting terrorism on one hand and finances and supports and hosts different terrorist organizations on the other hand".

Trump's call to the Qatari emir comes a day after the President spoke by telephone with Saudi Arabia's King Salman bin Abdelaziz and expressed to him the importance of unity against terrorism in the Persian Gulf.

Qatar has played down media reports that its military has been on "high alert" along its land border with Saudi Arabia since a diplomatic crisis has erupted between Doha and its Gulf neighbours. Both Britain and the United States were helping with their inquiry, they said.

The United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Bahrain accuse Qatar of supporting terrorism, which Qatar denies.

The UAE meanwhile warned that anyone showing sympathy with Qatar could face jail time or fines.

Its flag carrier Qatar Airways now flies increasingly over Iran and Turkey after being blocked elsewhere over the Middle East. Emirati officials also shut down the airline's offices in the UAE on Wednesday.

The head of Qatar's business chamber sought to allay those concerns on Wednesday, saying the country had enough food and other consumer goods to last a year.

"We are not ready to surrender, and will never be ready to surrender, the independence of our foreign policy", Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani told reporters in Doha on Thursday.

Nabeel Rajab, one of the country's most high-profile activists, is now on trial for a series of tweets criticising a Saudi-led Arab military campaign in Yemen.

Saudi Arabia and its Gulf allies may have felt emboldened to move against Qatar by Trump's visit last month to Riyadh, which saw the president clearly align United States interests with the kingdom and lash out at Iran.
