A meeting with the powerful Crusaders is up next tomorrow, with a relentless tour only set to get tougher.

"Yeah, I like to play as much rugby as possible but you have to be realistic".

"It was disappointing not to get the result against the Blues".

"Jared Payne had a tight calf but we knew about that", said Gatland.

There's going to be a few bumps on the road, this is our second stepping stone towards those three Tests, we're getting in a better place every time we train and play together. That's the challenge now.

Webb said shutting down Williams' ability to offload in the tackle would be key to stopping the All Blacks in the three-test series against the world champions.

"It's a great test for us and preparation".

Former England back Austin Healey led the charge after the Lions fell to the Blues, calling on coach Warren Gatland to save the tour by picking his test side against the Crusaders.

Gatland's side are without injured skipper Sam Warburton, who has a slight ankle strain, as well as Wales duo Ross Moriarty (back) and Dan Biggar (head).

The Crusaders always loomed as the toughest opponents of the opening 10 days and Gatland has chose to field what appears to be the strongest Lions side yet in a bid avoid what would be a dispiriting second defeat so early on the tour. Gatland's made it very, very clear that the first Test is all he's got his eyes on.

Indeed, it is only by virtue of Falcinelli’s prowess in the final third that Crotone still remains in contention to survive. In Romelu Lukaku, Koeman has a player with the capability of firing Everton to far headier heights than seventh place.

"But the Crusaders are on a roll, full of confidence at the moment and full of All Blacks".

The Lions didn't play Canterbury on their previous tour in 2005 but in 1993 beat the Cantabs 28-10 after losing the one in 1983 by 20-22 and also winning the one in 1977 by the closest of margins - 14-13.

The Crusaders include eight All Blacks in their team, including full-back Israel Dagg.

"It was always going to be tough".

"We see the Lions series as a great opportunity to gauge where we're at from both an individual and a team perspective".

Star hooker Dane Coles has been troubled by concussion issues in Super Rugby but has still been named in a squad captained by Kieran Read and including 1164 Test caps of experience and an average of 35 Test caps per player. "All we have got to concentrate on is what is ahead if us, the next game".

The British and Irish Lions have lost their first match of the 2017 tour, falling to the Blues in Auckland's Eden Park.

"Owen Farrell and Conor Murray are definitely very good players, they are world class". "We were coming here to get another victory but unfortunately we got a defeat. There are plenty of good players in this squad and to see how they go about everything they do is a brilliant way of learning for everybody".

Lions: S Hogg; G North, J Davies; B Te'o, L Williams; O Farrell; C Murray; M Vunipola, J George, T Furlong; AW Jones (capt), G Kruis; P O'Mahony, S O'Brien, T Faletau.
