China warned the United States and Japan against "intervening" in its buildup in the South China Sea after U.S. Defense Secretary James Mattis criticized China's land reclamation activities in the disputed Spratly Islands.

As North Korea's chief ally, China said via Communist Party-run media it would increase sanctions that could cut the amount of petroleum exported to North Korea, which relies on China for about 90 percent of its petroleum imports.
