He said on Twitter that others "can call it whatever they want, but I am calling it what we need and what it is, a TRAVEL BAN!"

On Sunday (Monday NZT), a spokesman for the London mayor said he was working with the police, emergency services and government to coordinate the response to the attack, and had "more important things to do" than to respond to Trump.

Trump said London Mayor Sadiq Khan had offered a "pathetic excuse" and "had to think fast on his "no reason to be alarmed" statement". MSM is working hard to sell it!'

We've come to expect weird and factually untrue bombast from Donald Trump's early morning tweets, but this past Monday, Trump may have hit an all-time low.

Khan told Channel 4 that there were "many things" that the US President was wrong about, and that the state visit should not go ahead.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said Monday that Trump was not "picking a fight with the mayor of London at all".

Trump's extraordinary attacks on the popular mayor of a grieving city have disgusted many Londoners, reigniting opposition to a state visit by the American president to the United Kingdom planned for later this year.

Wes Streeting, standing for re-election as an MP in Ilford North, said Trump was responsible for a "cheap attack on London's Mayor" and called on Trump's state visit to be cancelled.

New York City's mayor Bill de Blasio had already made his feelings known on Twitter, writing: "Mayor Sadiq Khan is doing an extraordinary job supporting Londoners in a time of pain".

Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan arrives in Potters Field Park for an event for the victims of Saturday nights attacks.

Khan has received widespread support in recent days, including from the 2016 US Democratic presidential nominee, Hilary Clinton, and Mayor Bill de Blasio of NY.

De Blasio congratulated Khan on his mayoral victory last May, and the pair held a "Building Inclusive and Progressive Cities" forum in Long Island City in September where they discussed their vision for inclusive, progressive cities and doubled down against anti-immigrant rhetoric during the presidential race. At the time, Mr Trump said he was "happy" London had elected Mr Khan and suggested the Labour politician was likely to be part of the exception to his plans for a barring Muslims.

Khan's remarks, however, were reportedly addressing the increased police presence that residents should expect in the coming days.

"That's not to say that Prime Minister May was wrong to go and see President Trump, it's not wrong".

The three suspects were shot dead by police officers within minutes after they drove a van into pedestrians on the bridge and then stormed pubs and restaurants, stabbing anyone in their path.
