Israeli Forces Kill Palestinian Man During West Bank Clashes

The clashes broke out at a major checkpoint at the entrance to Ramallah and another near the Israeli settlement of Beit El, the site of regular demonstrations against Israel's 50-year occupation of the West Bank.

The ministry said that medical crews transported him to the Salfit governmental hospital after he sustained the injuries where his condition was reported critical.

Some 1,600 Palestinian prisoners are now on hunger strike demanding Israel Prison Service allow them family visits, the right to pursue higher education, appropriate medical care and treatment, and bring an end to solitary confinement and administrative detention - imprisonment without charge or trial. The Palestinian Authority, which exercises limited self-rule in the West Bank, denies incitement and says that, in many cases, Israel has used excessive force in thwarting attackers armed with rudimentary weapons. He was released in 2011 as part of prisoner swap deal reached between Hamas and Israel, which involved the liberation of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit against 1,047 Palestinian detainees.

Two protesters were hit by rubber bullets and evacuated on stretchers, according to the AFP.

Such mockery of the Palestinian prisoner's hunger strike is nothing new.

The strikers demand more humane conditions, family visits allowed and proper medical treatment.

US officials have indicated that 120 mm mortars, machine guns, ammunition and light armored vehicles were possibilities. The fall of Tabqa leaves no other major urban settlements on the road to Raqqa, about 25 miles (40 kilometers) away.

The protest action, dubbed the Freedom and Dignity Strike, began on April 17.

But his wife, Fadwa, rejected the footage as fake, saying it was "intended to break the morale of prisoners".
