While addressing graduates at Liberty University on Saturday in his first commencement address as president, Trump repeatedly lashed out at Washington - urging graduates to challenge the establishment and stand firm in their convictions.

"The more that a broken system tells you that you're wrong, the more certain you should be that you must keep pushing ahead, you must keep pushing forward", Trump said.

President Donald Trump said on Saturday he will move quickly to nominate a new Federal Bureau of Investigation director, after he sparked a political firestorm by firing the man investigating possible collusion between Russian Federation and the Trump presidential campaign.

Trump also described the candidates for the post as "outstanding people", "very well known" and of the "highest level".

Liberty's president, Jerry Falwell, Jr., has long supported Trump, himself a Presbyterian who has married three times, built casinos, and was caught on tape bragging about groping women. He said he was not anxious that Trump would get a negative reception, because his students treat speakers with respect.

Trump said it was the third time he'd visited Liberty University, where Jerry Falwell Jr.is the president. He later added: "We all bleed the same blood of patriots, we all salute the same, great American flag, and we are all made by the same almighty God".

"Washington is run by a small group with failed values who think they know everything", the president orated from the Christian campus state, according to Fox News.

Donald Trump delivered his first commencement address as president at Liberty University on Saturday morning. At one point, he said, "you aren't going to let other people tell you what you believe, especially when you know that you're right".

Trump advised the graduates to "never quit" and to carry themselves with "dignity and pride". In that speech, Trump promised: "We're going to protect Christianity, and I can say that". Mr. Trump also told Liberty University grads that it was okay to be an outsider and to embrace that label, claiming that "we're doing very, very well... against the tide of barbarity", claiming there would be more news coming from generals in the next week.

He ticked off early accomplishments of note to evangelicals, including the confirmation of Neil M. Gorsuch to the Supreme Court, and a recent executive order directing the Justice Department not to enforce the so-called Johnson Amendment that bars religious institutions from engaging in political activity.
