Pyongyang's state-run Korean Central TV Broadcasting Station aired two pictures showing what were described as Thaad components installed at a golf course in South Korea's Seongju county during a talk show, Yonhap News Agency reported.

Given that, the prospect for improved ties between Seoul and Beijing isn't clear, with some saying China won't back down until it gets a major concession on the system's deployment and others saying China is also eager for improved ties and will settle for less as long as it can save face on the missile-defense issue.

"President Moon said the THAAD issue can be resolved when there is no further provocation by North Korea", Yoon said.

As he took the oath of office Wednesday, Moon said he was open to visiting Pyongyang under the right conditions to discuss its nuclear programme.

North Korea has unveiled what it claims are satellite images of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defence (THAAD) system which was deployed by the United States military in South Korea, Seoul officials said on Thursday.

Pyongyang will seek the extradition of anyone involved in an alleged CIA-backed plot to kill leader Kim Jong-un with a biochemical poison, a top North Korean foreign ministry official has said. Moon came into office Wednesday, only one day after winning the presidential by-election caused by the March 10 ouster of his predecessor Park Geun-hye over a massive corruption scandal. Beijing sees the system as a threat to its own security.

"He said he saw a need for the two countries to work together and wisely overcome historical disputes including the comfort women issue, while separately continuing their joint efforts to deal with the North Korean nuclear issue", Yoon told a press briefing.

In their first telephone conversation, Moon and Xi "agreed that denuclearising the Korean peninsula is the two countries' common goal", the South Korean president's spokesman Yoon Young-Chan told reporters.

The deployment of the THAAD system was agreed on by Park's administration past year after North Korea conducted a long-range rocket launch that put an object into space.

During his call with Japanese Prime Minster Shinzo Abe, the two leaders agreed that their countries must not let their hard history hamper co-operation in dealing with North Korea's nuclear program, Moon's office said.

South Korean President Moon Jae-In spoke to the leaders of China and Japan on Thursday, hours after a telephone call with his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump happened, officials and reports said, as he began shaping his approach to the nuclear armed North.
