"I can't even talk, I'm sorry", Smith said initially to The Golf Channel. 10 and 11 to move to 10 under for the day but parred the next six holes, setting the stage for Kisner's heroics, when he holed out his chip shot from 94 1/2 feet.

The Australian stepped up and confidently sank the putt to earn himself a first win on the Tour and a share of the winner's prize pot with his Swedish team-mate. "Didn't get it done but we'll be back next year".

Long-time leaders Blixt and Smith had looked set to win the two-man competition - the first official team event on the PGA Tour in 36 years - after finding themselves in a seemingly invincible position on the par-five 18th.

"It's like going back to playing as a kid", Blixt said. "You've got to expect the unexpected". Speaking to a few of the guys, you really get into the swing of this tournament, you get the rhythm going and you make the putts and then everything feels fun and sort of you're vibing. Kisner said he could see the flag, but perhaps only because of light from a massive video board reflecting off a water hazard.

Blixt and Smith started strong with birdies at the second and third. After Kisner and Brown saw their birdie putts slide by yet again, Smith buried his and finally broke the tape of this marathon tournament. Both teams made par on the 18th hole twice and made par on the ninth hole before Smith decided the issue on No. 18. Kisner and Blixt stuck their approach shots, Smith put it on the green from a hard lie in the rough and Brown went over the green.

It was a tournament he and Blixt probably should have won Sunday evening. Each golfer takes home $1.02 million and 400 FedEXCup points.

Former world number one Jordan Spieth and Ryan Palmer finished fourth at 22 under.

Speith's 16-foot birdie attempt rolled around the lip of the cup and out on 16.

Palmer narrowly missed par putts from within 3 feet on the second and 13th holes.

Both teams finished four rounds at 27-under par at the par-72.
