"Hawaii is, in fact, an island in the Pacific - a handsome one where the Attorney General's granddaughter was born", a spokesman told the network.
"They're vetting them pretty carefully already", he said, adding that the USA has "always been a country to welcome immigrants". He criticized Sessions for his comments and said he had been wrong to dismiss the federal judge as he holds equal power under the USA constitution like any other state.
Sessions told The Mark Levin Show that he believes the travel ban will be reinstated upon appeal. The ruling should be (and probably will be) overturned eventually due to what Sessions says in the clip about judges "psychoanalyzing" Trump by reading motives into campaign-trail statements, but I don't know where he's going with this mainland/Pacific distinction. "Give me a break", Sessions said. "Jeff Sessions' comments are ignorant & risky".
Sessions' reference to Hawaii as "an island in the Pacific" didn't sit well the state's two senators. Our Constitution created a separation of powers in the United States for a reason.
It's truly disturbing, albeit not surprising given Sessions' long and ugly history, that the Attorney General does not support the rule of law or understand that the judiciary is a co-equal branch of the federal government, that deserves his utmost respect. "It is disappointing AG Sessions does not acknowledge that", Chin's statement read.
Senators from Hawaii reacted angrily to Sessions' remarks. It includes a "yea" vote from AL Sen.
Schatz added a message for the Attorney General saying, "You voted for that judge".
Trump proposes tax cut for owner-operator businesses
The government's budget deficit could explode under the plan, offsetting numerous benefits for the economy, economists say. Trump's plan is billed as "the biggest tax cut and the largest tax reform in the history of our country".
Sessions' seeming belittling of the 50th state caught wind on social media, prompting Hirono and Sen.
One writer hoped Sessions would take a "three-hour" tour, when he could presumably get lost on "Gilligan's Island".
Chelsea Clinton points out that "an American in Hawaii is as American as one from Alabama".
Facing legal challenges and pushback over his first so-called "travel ban", Trump signed an updated version of the order in early March, which sought to bar travelers from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen from applying for new visas to travel to the US for 90 days.
Heavily urbanized, militarized and, as a result, heavily polluted, Hawaii remains a top tourist attraction.
Last year, personal finance website WalletHub ranked it as the sixth most patriotic state, using metrics such as military engagement, voting habits and civil-education requirements.
Most Americans would call it an essential part of US history.
