Bruins lose in OT again; Senators grab series lead

The Boston Bruins played their worst period of hockey in a while to open Game 3 of their first-round Stanley Cup playoff series against the Ottawa Senators on Monday night. He picked up the game-winning goal on one of his four shots while adding two hits, two blocks and a takeaway.

A similar destiny nearly felled the Senators in Game 2, with Craig Anderson's gaffe zapping all the momentum gained from Clarke MacArthur's momentous game-tying goal only 1:42 earlier.

Who has the edge when the Boston Bruins and Ottawa Senators meet up in a crucial Game 3 of their series tonight at 7PM ET?

In Game 2, the Bruins blew a 3-1 lead in the third period, but Ottawa rallied with two goals third-period goals and won in overtime. Tuukka Rask stopped 25 shots.

The Senators tied their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series 1-1 and Game 3 is Monday night in Boston.

Brassard, who was brought in because he's a strong performer at playoff time, scored his second of the post-season by beating Rask on the glove side at 7:40 to give the Senators their first two-goal lead of this series.

Less than 30 seconds after that, Derick Brassard took advantage of a sloppy Boston clearing attempt, banging home the puck while stationed on Rusk's doorstep for a 2-0 Ottawa lead.

Ottawa seemed to be cruising in the second period following Hoffman's second goal of the night off a power play to make it 3-0. He was able to tip a shot by John-Michael Liles by Anderson to at least get the crowd back into the game.

"It (Wednesday's game) is going to probably be the most intense game of the series so far". The Senators defeated the Bruins 4-3. Since then, he's slowly been working his way into the Bruins lineup, gaining ice time and developing into a depth piece for the Atlantic Division club.

Ottawa's first goal of the night came after Erik Karlsson flipped a pass behind Boston's defense to spring Hoffman on a breakaway. The three goals were scored on just seven shots in the period. While all continue to be listed as day-to-day, there was some positive news on the injury front: Miller skated at Sunday's practice and has a shot to return while forward Noel Acciari is expected to be available and take his place on the fourth line alongside Dominic Moore and Riley Nash. Backes picked it up and went in alone to beat Anderson. With the Senators on a power play, Anderson was out of his net trying to backhand the puck around the boards. Whether he plays in Game 3 is still up in the air, but the injury is still a blow to the Sens who at long last looked healthy on the blue line with Marc Methot finally returning from his gruesome injury.

The Leafs will once again be without defenceman Nikita Zaitsev, who continues to recover from an upper-body injury suffered on Sunday.
