One day after 50-year-old Tad Cummins was found in northern California with his former student, 15-year-old Elizabeth Thomas, his wife and daughters have released a statement.

The student, Elizabeth Thomas, was found safe, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation tweeted Thursday. He let them spend the night in the cabin because they said they were broke. More information about the capture and rescue of Tad Cummins and Elizabeth Thomas will be provided as it becomes available.

Jill Cummins, who has publicly pleaded with her husband, Tad Cummins, to bring the Columbia, Tenn. girl home, filed the documents in Maury County Chancery Court Friday citing irreconcilable differences and inappropriate marital conduct.

Barry said he realized who Thomas and Cummins were when someone showed him a picture of the AMBER Alert subject and her suspected kidnapper.

But the search for answers is far from over. "Now begins another hard chapter, but for now, we celebrate".

The pair disappeared as a police investigation into their relationship was heating up. Cooper didn't provide details on what was in the note, but said it appeared to have been a diversion to throw investigators off the trail. The search for the pair spawned Amber alerts in Tennessee and Alabama, a sighting in Oklahoma City and more than 1,500 tips before they were found this week in Siskiyou County, which borders Oregon.

Authorities from the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Department confirmed their location early Thursday morning. The two identified themselves as John and Joanna when they met Barry at a gas station and told him they needed money and a place to stay. He was not on the property when the pair was there.

The friend told him something didn't seem right, O'Hare said.

Cummins, 50, told Barry he was 44, and that the teen was his 22-year-old wife, Barry told CNN affiliate KRCR.

An affidavit alleges Cummins had been planning his time on the run with her: He had taken out a loan that previous week of approximately $4,500, filled a prescription for Cialis, a drug used for erectile dysfunction, and booked hotel reservations out of state.

Then, when he looked at the vehicle, he noticed it didn't have a license plate.

The school's investigative files provided to The Associated Press by the attorney show that both Cummins and the girl denied kissing. "She was kind of shy or timid or something", Barry said.

Cummins was officially fired from his teaching job at Culleoka Unit School. He's facing numerous charges, including a federal charge of "transportation of a minor across state lines to have sexual intercourse". Elizabeth was walking behind him and was detained.

The main concern is for her emotional well-being, TBI Director Mark Gwyn said.

"It was very traumatic for her". She said they can all finally sleep again.

"After we placed them into protective custody, she was laughing, she was crying".

Speaking Friday on ABC's "Good Morning America", the teen's father said he thinks his daughter was brainwashed and will need therapy.
