The San Francisco Giants will be without ace pitcher Madison Bumgarner for a little while after he suffered bruised ribs and a left shoulder AC sprain in a dirt bike accident Thursday in Colorado, the team announced. The Giants said Bumgarner is out of the hospital and resting at the team hotel. The Giants have scored just two runs in his past three starts.
The injury could be long-term, with Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reporting Bumgarner is expected to miss 6-8 weeks.
Blach has appeared in six games for the Giants this season giving up three earned runs in four and two thirds innings pitched.
Death toll in Venezuela protests reaches 9
GM's Venezuelan operations have been a drag on earnings for several years. Tens of thousands of protesters asking for the resignation of Pre.
This is Bumgarner's first trip to the disabled list in his nine-year major league career.
Bumgarner was scheduled to pitch against the Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw on Tuesday. Bumgarner will miss roughly a third of the season, and to a team that now is 6-10 and has struggled to score runs, this is a tough blow.
Bumgarner has yet to win a game this season despite a respectable 3.00 ERA and 28 strikeouts in four starts. Beede has a 3.78 ERA across 16 2/3 innings for Triple-A Sacramento, and his last start was April 19 - the same day Bumgarner made his last start.
