The New England Patriots are visiting the White House Wednesday to celebrate their historic Super Bowl victory, but one player got into the fun before the official event began. Star quarterback Tom Brady notified the White House that he was dealing with a "personal family matter" and would not attend the ceremony.

Brady released a statement saying he is "so happy and excited" that the Patriots are being honored at the White House. The Boston Herald stated his mother, Galynn, is in town as she battles cancer.

"Whether trying to win a Super Bowl or rebuilding our country there are no days off", Trump said.

The New England Patriots met with President Trump in the Oval Office, where they got photos with him.

Here are 10 reasons why Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is the most fun athlete in pro sports. The team has not officially commented on this development. This time, however, the media focused a lot of attention on the players who refused to attend due to their dislike of President Trump. They overcame a 25 point deficit over the Atlanta Falcons, to win the championship.

But the thing is, this isn't the first time Facebook has come under fire for capturing tragic incidents similar to Godwin's death. Godwin will be laid to rest Saturday, almost a week after his last meal with his children.

Brady, a friend of Trump, cited "personal family matters" on why he was skipping the ceremony. He called the Patriots' 34-28 overtime triumph "the greatest Super Bowl comeback of all time".

Trump, who is on favorable terms with coach Bill Belichick and team owner Robert Kraft, was unable to see another one of his friends on Wednesday.

The visit came the same day that former Patriot Aaron Hernandez killed himself in prison, where he was serving a life sentence for murder.

Hernandez played three seasons for the team before he was arrested and charged with murder in the 2013 shooting of Odin Lloyd, who was dating his fiancee's sister.

Defensive back Devin McCourty said he wouldn't attend because he doesn't feel welcome at the White House.

A surprised press secretary Sean Spicer could only laugh when he turned around and saw Gronkowski open a door and ask him whether he needed "any help".
