Serena Williams is pregnant, so let's throw her a baby shower

In December, Williams announced her engagement to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, first sharing that news on the Reddit social media site.

The 35-year-old posted a picture on Snapchat hinting that she was expecting - but then deleted it yesterday before her spokesperson confirmed the news.

Kelly Bush Novak wrote in an email to The Associated Press on Wednesday: "I'm happy to confirm Serena is expecting a baby this Fall".

Serena won her 23th Grand Slam title at the Australian Open without losing any set during her seventh week of pregnancy.

It's another love game for Serena Williams: She is pregnant - and, based on the timeline she offered, she already was when she won the Australian Open.

United Nations votes to end to Haiti peacekeeping mission in mid-October

She cited a knee injury in pulling out of tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami in March. "We will let you know once we have further information".

Celebrities and fans had reacted with a mixture of awe and glee to Williams' Snapchat post prior to the confirmation of her pregnancy.

Since the birth of son Leo, Azarenka has returned to training and plans to return to competition at the WTA tournament in Stanford, California, in July. Only one woman has won more: Margaret Smith Court, who claimed part of her 24 during the amateur era. A spokeswoman for Serena Williams says the tennis star is pregnant. While Williams could conceivably choose to continue playing tennis through her pregnancy (track athlete Alysia Montano continued training throughout her pregnancy and ran the 800-meter at the USA track and field championships while almost eight months pregnant), Williams' absence from the tour so far indicates she might not return to competition until after the birth of her child-if she even wants to come back at all.

Williams is the oldest woman to win a Grand Slam singles title and still dominates the tour at an age when most players have retired. She won the NY marathon in November 2007 six weeks before turning 34 and 10 months after having a child. "I look forward to being back as soon as I can".
