Christians nationwide celebrate Easter Sunday

Thousands of Christians marked Jesus's resurrection on Easter Sunday at the Jerusalem site where they believe the miracle occurred, with some prostrating themselves over his tomb and leaving in tears.

The days falling between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday are together termed as Passion Week. "According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you".

"This was their state on Friday, this was who they had become on Friday and then on Sunday morning, something happened, and something changed".

Mr Ledua said Easter was also a day that saw a significant increase in church attendances as Christians came out from their busy schedule to be part of the important event in the Christian history.

I asked myself the question, "How did Easter come about?"

"It is a period when, after the 40-day Lenten period in which we deny ourselves of comfort and celebrate God's ultimate sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ for mankind". The Bible teaches us that the only way that we can inherit everlasting life is through the gift of God's grace, and it is only by God's grace that he sent His son to die on the cross to save sinners. We don't do things much differently on Easter than we would any other Sunday throughout the year.

How blessed we are to know that and to be able to celebrate the fact that even when the world seemed to have given up on Jesus, God reminded them in a powerful way that indeed He is in control.

Christians have been urged to emulate the example of Jesus Christ by cultivating the habit of forgiving without keeping records of the wrongs forgiven and occasionally refer to them each time a similar offence is committed.

In his message, the Archbishop has said, "On Good Friday, Christians the world over celebrated the death of the Lord Jesus on the cross".
