Road cordoned off in Rolleston, Canterbury, after gunshots heard

A man has been arrested following the shooting of two women in the Canterbury town of Rolleston.

Inspector Corrie Parnell said the man was taken into custody without incident.

"He is now being interviewed and is likely to face a range of serious charges", Parnell said.

The 23-year-old allegedly fled after her seriously wounded the two women at the Newtons Road home on Wednesday night.

The two victims are in Christchurch Hospital with serious gunshot wounds after the incident at a house outside of Christchurch.

An Armed Offenders Squad member marshals members of the public on Maddisons Rd by Wild Rd near Rolleston.

Armed police found him when they searched an address in Rakaia, further southwest of Christchurch, around 7am on Thursday.

A Newshub reporter on the scene spoke to locals who say they saw the armed offenders squad descending on the property early on Thursday morning.

One witness said about 30 police officers and ambulances were on the road.
