"Giraffes give birth standing up, which means when the calf is ready to be born, it exits its mother hooves first from six feet off the floor, making for a very exciting event!"

April became internet famous when her pregnancy was live-streamed by the zoo, which is located in rural New York, three hours northwest of New York City.

Seconds after birth, April tenderly licked her calf, which began to slowly pick his head up from the floor of the pen.

Animal Adventure Park owner Jordan Patch said that both mom and calf are doing fine.

The weight of the newborn is unknown, but a calf at birth is usually about 6 feet tall and weighs a whopping 100 to 150 pounds.

Animal Adventure Park is holding a contest to name the male calf born to April the giraffe. But shortly before noon, the zoo shared an adorable photo of April nuzzling him while he stood beneath her trying to nurse.

The channel had its biggest day on Saturday, with more than 14 million live views. After those 10 days the zoo will reveal the top 10 most popular entries, and then open up voting on those names for an additional five days.

April is said to have recovered perfectly and is eating "everything in sight".

The yet-to-be-named calf is the fourth calf for 15-year-old April.
