The Council of Ministers had advised the extension of the current state of emergency "in an attempt to provide the continuance of measures aimed at securing the rights and freedoms of citizens", according to the state-run Anadolu Agency. The state of emergency has now been extended three times since the July 2016 failed coup.
"We have a recommendation by the National Security Council to extend the state of emergency for another 3 months".
The National Security Council, which convened in Ankara under the chairmanship of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, issued the statement after a 50-minute meeting. "I hope that with TBMM's approval, the State of Emergency will be extended three more months".
Meanwhile, protests have been simmering in many parts including Ankara, Istanbul and Izmir - three of the largest cities in the country that voted against Erdogan.

The Council of Ministers made a decision to extend the ongoing state of emergency for another three months, government spokesman and deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmuş announced on Monday. "A very tough struggle is being carried out against all terror organizations", Kurtulmuş said.
Fethullah Gulen denied the accusations.
