The United States stepped up pressure Sunday on Russian Federation to rein in Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, warning that any further chemical attacks would be "very damaging" to their relationship and suggesting there can be no peace in Syria while Assad remains in power.

"This man who is now in office in America claimed that he wanted to fight terrorism but today all terrorists in Syria are celebrating the USA attack", he said.

In his first televised interview, HR McMaster highlighted dual U.S. goals of defeating the so-called "Islamic State" group and removing Mr Assad from power.

British Defense Secretary Michael Fallon on Sunday accused Russian Federation of being responsible "by proxy" for the death of 87 civilians killed last week in a suspected chemical weapons attack.

Moscow has sought to deflect blame from its long-time ally Assad over the incident and says Syrian jets struck a rebel arms depot where "toxic substances" were being put inside bombs.

Johnson will demand western nations draw up "very punitive sanctions" at a G7 foreign ministers meeting Monday in response to last week's chemical attack in Idlib province, in which up to 90 people were killed.

US President Donald Trump ordered the strikes after he blamed Assad for this week's chemical attack, which killed at least 70 people, many of them children, in the Syrian town of Khan Sheikhoun.

But as lawmakers called on Trump to consult with Congress on any future military strikes and a longer-term strategy on Syria, Trump administration officials sent mixed signals on the scope of USA involvement.

In an uncompromising article published today, Sir Michael Fallon warned that Moscow must bring Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad "to heel" in order to stop further atrocities in the war-torn Middle Eastern country.

"Russia could be part of the solution", he said, noting that now they were "part of the problem".

"As I said again, taking this action I support and was important".

"You pick and choose your battles and when we're looking at this, it's about changing up priorities and our priority is no longer to sit there and focus on getting Assad out", Haley told reporters on 30 March, just days before dozens of Syrian civilians deceased from chemical weapons injuries.

"We're asking and calling on Bashar al-Assad to cease the use of these weapons".

The comments came as Tillerson makes the Trump administration's first official trip this week to Russian Federation, a staunch Assad ally. He says that once the militant group is eliminated, the USA can turn to stabilizing Syria.
