The video of the killing was on Facebook for about three hours before it was removed.
The U.S. authorities said Monday a national search is undergoing for an armed killer who allegedly shot a 74-year-old man dead in Cleveland, Ohio, and uploaded the bloody video to Facebook.
In a statement early Monday, police warned residents of Pennsylvania, New York, Indiana and MI to be on the lookout for Stephens, who they said may have traveled out of state.
"Our reach now is basically all over this country", Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams told a news conference in Ohio's second-largest city.
The incident was the latest disturbing crime captured on Facebook video, including the alleged gang rape of a 15-year-old girl, two fatal shootings, and the kidnapping and torture of a disabled 18-year-old man. The company said that Stephens posted a video of himself announcing his intent to commit murder, then two minutes later posted another video of himself shooting and killing Godwin.
Cleveland officials have also offered a $50,000 (£39,805) reward for information that leads to his location.
Police across the USA are hunting 37-year-old Steve Stephens after footage showed 74-year-old Robert Godwin Sr being approached - apparently at random - before he was shot dead. "Hi, can you do me a favor?" He blamed her for what was about to happen. He then asks Godwin his age before gunning him down.
Stephens is not believed to have known Godwin, a retired foundry worker who media reports said spent Easter Sunday morning with his son and daughter-in-law before he was killed. Godwin Jr. could not immediately be reached by Reuters to comment.

She also said Stephens was "a nice guy" who was good to her and her children. Reuters was not able to reach Lane by phone or email for comment.
According to Facebook, the first report about the video containing the shooting arrived one hour and 45 minutes after it went posted.

Investigators said that Godwin was the only victim so far linked to Stephens, despite his claim on Facebook that he killed over a dozen people. The last confirmed sighting of Stephens was at the scene of the homicide. Detectives spoke with the suspect on Sunday by cellphone and tried to persuade him to surrender, police said.
