The big winners of the 2017 Boston Marathon hailed from Kenya and Switzerland. In the women's division, Edna Kiplagat made the most of her first appearance in the Boston Marathon, separating from the pack at the 18-mile mark and cruising to a victory.
Meb Keflezighi, the California resident who won the Boston Marathon the year after the bombings, took time near the finish line today to greet the family of Martin Richard. In 2011, Linden narrowly missed the victory by 2 seconds and has ever since been chasing a Boston victory.
The first bomb exploded just yards from the finish line but spectators say they still feel safe.
"It's incredibly special", Switzer, 70, told NESN of this year's race. And this time, she was greeted with acclaim instead of consternation.
"She knew I'd be debuting in Boston, and so I was just thinking about everyone out there that has lost loved ones as well, and that really lifted me up and empowered me through it", Hasay added. It's also one of the most competitive, as entry is restricted to runners who have met qualifying standards for their age group.

The race for the presidency features Francois Fillon, Emmanuael Macron, Benoit Hamon, Jean-Luc Melenchon, and Marine Le Pen. For some voters, Ms Le Pen is too extreme while centrist Emmanuel Macron is too young.
Also running on Monday was Ben Beach, who completed the race for an unprecedented 50th time in a row. On her application she used her initials K.V. Switzer, and thus organizers issued her a bib.
It was a Swiss sweep in the wheelchairs, as Manuela Schar won the women's title with a course record of 1:28:17.
The winners' times on the point-to-point Boston course are considered a world best and not a world record because of the possibility of a supportive tailwind like the one on Monday. "Everything was fantastic today".
Switzer's coach in 1967 was a 15-time Boston Marathoner and didn't think a woman could do it - which energized Switzer to try.
Evans has been the city's police commissioner since 2014.
