He confessed before a magistrate and the court that he was tasked by the Indian intelligence agency to plan, coordinate and organize espionage and sabotage activities aiming at destabilising and wage war against Pakistan by impeding the efforts of law enforcement agencies for restoring peace in Balochistan and Karachi. India says if Yadav was executed, it will be considered as a "premeditated murder". However, sources said that consular access will not be provided for the subversive activities he carried out as an agent of RAW. "The government feels that certain decisions have to be taken in the national interest and they will certainly do so", BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli told ANI.

Minister of State for External Affairs V K Singh on Saturday said the government was taking all measures to gain consular access to former Indian Navy officer Kulbhushan Jadhav despite Pakistan denying it "13 times".

The Indian side also conveyed that it will appeal the order. Officials said that under the circumstances, the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi could play a facilitating role. However, India denied Pakistan's contention and maintained that Jadhav was kidnapped by the Pakistan authorities.

Meanwhile, Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan Gautam Bambawale called on Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua on Friday and sought consular access to Kulbushan Jadhav.

Police said he is to be considered armed and risky , and urged the public to not approach the suspect if spotted. Stephens also claimed to have "committed multiple other homicides which are yet to verified", police said.

The Pakistan Army had also released a "confessional video" of Jadhav after his arrest.

A delegation of the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) was to visit New Delhi on April 16-19 to discuss issues related to fishermen of both the countries, who are arrested for trespassing, and search and rescue operations with the Indian Coast Guard. The government is also likely to review its attempts in the past few months to encourage people to people contacts with Pakistan.

This is the first move by the government to raise the stakes for Pakistan after the Jadhav sentencing as it suggests that the two countries could be returning to the situation which prevailed in the immediate aftermath of the Uri attack past year in which 19 Indian soldiers were killed.

Pakistan claims its security forces had arrested Jadhav from the restive Balochistan province on March 3 a year ago after he reportedly entered from Iran.
