The S8's "killer feature" is the face recognition software which lets you open the phone with your face, similar to Microsoft's Lumia 950 smartphone released past year.

Samsung has officially unveiled the latest addition to Galaxy premium range, the Galaxy S8 at its Unpacked 2017 event in NY. With one phone held up to the facial scanner with an image of the owner on the display, the phone's sensor appears to believe it's looking at its owner and unlocks the device. Past year also saw the advent of the fingerprint sensor as a staple in smartphone features.

Samsung is expected to launch its latest smartphone with a bigger memory of six gigabytes (GB) for China exclusively in Mid-April.

Previous leaks suggested that the device will come in two versions - the Samsung Galaxy X1 and the Samsung Galaxy X1 Plus although specifics about it all are still murky. The Galaxy S8 features a 5.8-inch display, while the Galaxy S8 Plus features a 6.2-inch display. "The new device customization is an example of bringing together Microsoft applications on more devices so customers can work, play and connect from their pockets", the company said. While, this when compared to the regular models of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 + will only be limited to Microsoft Office apps. Both Galaxy S8 smartphones are up for pre-order now and come in the colors Midnight Black, Gray Orchid and Arctic Silver. And yes, that means you'll have three virtual assistants on the phone: Samsung's Bixby, Google's Assistant, and Microsoft's Cortana.

"It's really about optimizing the viewing experience on the device", a Samsung representative told International Business Times at a briefing prior to the Galaxy S8 release.
