The musician was found dead in his Groton, Massachusetts home on Tuesday, according to ABC affiliate WCVB in Boston.
Geils was found dead Tuesday at his home in MA. They do not suspect foul play. The band's biggest single, "Centerfold", spent six weeks at No. 1, and "Freeze-Frame" peaked at No. 4.
Geils formed the band during his time at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where he studied mechanical engineering. Those songs were included on the band's hit album Freeze Frame, which sat at the top of the album chart in 1983 for four weeks. Geils had a knack for finding talent and filled his band with luminaries Peter Wolf, Seth Justman, Danny Klein, Magic Dick Salwitz and Stephen Jo Bladd. "R.I.P. Jay Geils' PW".
