White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon listens at right as President Donald Trump speaks during a meeting on cyber security in the Roosevelt Room of the White House in Washington, Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017.
Much was made about the removal of chief White House strategist Steve Bannon from his post on the National Security Council, but National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster said on Sunday that it's really not that big of a deal.
Politico said, "The fight, people in the administration say, centers on policy differences".
Bannon served as chief executive of Trump's presidential campaign after leaving his former role as executive chairman of the conservative Breitbart News previous year. On the other are Mr. Kushner's "Democrats", an appellation used to describe even Republicans who want to soften Mr. Trump's rough edges and broaden his narrow popular appeal after months of historically low poll numbers.
The report in the Wall Street Journal comes days after Bannon was removed from his position on the National Security Council and reports of his fractured relationship with Trump's influential son-in-law Jared Kushner.
While he's aligned with other White House aides, including Trump's senior policy adviser Stephen Miller, Bannon has been criticized for the troubled rollout of the president's executive order on immigration and the failed attempt in March to pass health care legislation.
Another Twitter account offered a more aggressive solution on Bannon and Kushner: "They're both unqualified hired by someone who's unqualified".

Four equities research analysts have rated the stock with a hold rating and four have issued a buy rating to the company's stock. Alamos is a Canadian-based intermediate gold producer with diversified production from three operating mines in North America.
Bannon has become representative of the nationalist faction within the Trump administration, which appears to be losing influence in recent weeks. "Knock it off. Work together", Trump said.
People tweeting #FireKushner, called the president's son-in-law a "globalist". And it all came to a head this week, when new details emerged that Kushner had played a pivotal role in kicking Bannon off the National Security Council.
While the America First message arguably was President Trump's biggest boost during the primary and general election, it seems to be becoming a mere afterthought at this point.
On whether Trump will make changes, Ruddy said he wasn't privy to internal discussion but noted, "Donald Trump has a history of ignoring what everyone says or thinks and keeping people he likes for a long period of time". Conservatives are an endangered species in your White House.
But this past week, one that some of his aides considered the best of his presidency, was marred by fits, starts and self-inflicted wounds - and the constant churn of news accounts of a White House at war with itself finally wore the president out.
Trump's administration faced a major worldwide test this past week when the president ordered a missile strike on an air field controlled by forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar Assad after a chemical weapon attack against Syrians.
