"Tens of thousands" of people took to the streets throughout Puerto Rico on Monday, July 22, to call for the resignation of Governor Ricardo Rossello, El Nuevo Dia reported.
Puerto Rico is a US territory, and while the island votes in presidential primaries, the people don't have representation in Congress and don't vote in the presidential election.
The protests came on the heels of Rossello's Sunday * a href="https://newswire.storyful.com/storylines/*/stories/223354?search_term=puerto%20rico" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" data-ylk="slk:announcement" class="link rapid-noclick-resp" *announcement that he would step down as head of the New Progressive Party and would not seek re-election in 2020.
President Donald Trump also weighed in, calling Rossello "a bad governor" and saying that hurricane relief funds were "in the hands of incompetent people and very corrupt people".
Rossello ridiculed Puerto Rican pop star Ricky Martin for his homosexuality.
The warrants follow massive protests demanding the ouster of Gov. Ricardo Rosselló, who participated in an offensive, obscenity-laden online chat between him and his advisers that was leaked and triggered the crisis. That these people even laughed at the victims of Hurricane Maria made clear the cesspools their souls are. "We've put up with corruption for so many years".

"They don't like to give me the credit for it, but we did a great job. The chat was the tip of the iceberg", she told Al Jazeera.
She says it's important people on the mainland understand the protests are about more than just the recent text message scandal involving Governor Rossello.
At a smaller rally in front of the governor's residence, police fired tear gas to disperse a crowd of hundreds.
Protests, which have largely been peaceful, began last week after Puerto Rico's Center for Investigative Journalism published some 800 pages of private chats between Rosselló and his advisors.
The crowd surged along the American Expressway despite the punishing heat - toddlers, teenagers, professionals and the elderly, all dripping in sweat and smiling as they waved Puerto Rico flags large and small and hoisted signs.
