The State Department has said that Iran should release all "innocent USA persons" held in that country "immediately" after Iran's foreign minister claimed Wednesday to have offered a prisoner swap to the Trump administration six months ago.
Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said he doubts Trump wants conflict because the president ran on a campaign promise "not to waste another $7 trillion in our region in order to make the situation only worse". Fine, let's not discuss that.
"We can not rely on what will happen two years down the road", he said.

"Nobody talks about this lady", Zarif said, referring to the case of Negar Ghodskani who is also awaiting USA extradition.
Javad Zarif told an audience at the Asia Society in New York City that Tehran had not yet received a response from Washington, adding: "If they tell you anything else, they're lying".

"The United States and those countries will be responsible for any consequences".
Zarif said the woman had given birth in prison.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry said Thursday that Tehran will not allow any other state take its place in the global oil market, according to a report by Fars news agency. Nevertheless, traditional business models are no longer sustainable and high-quality publications, like ours, are being forced to look for new ways to keep going.
The United States, which is closely allied with Arab states in the Gulf, has had years of small-scale naval confrontations with Iran, which has occasionally threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz, the chokepoint through which 20 percent of the world's oil flows. "We are not there yet", Zarif said referring to the November 2020 vote for USA president.
