"It was a private meeting", Veselnitskaya told a Russian television channel. It was Magnitsky's suspicious death that led to a piece of legislation named after him that was signed by former President Barack Obama in 2012 to punish and bar Russians accused of human rights violations from entering the U.S. Russia responded by blocking Americans from adopting Russian children.

Veselnitskaya said on July 19 that she was ready to testify before the US Senate if she gets security guarantees.

The lawyer explained the situation by attempts to damage the reputation of US President Donald Trump or to "continue further escalation of the conflict with Russian Federation". Browder was the co-founder and head of Hermitage Capital, which was a leading foreign investor in Russian Federation until 2006 when it was targeted by corporate raiders with government ties.

Donald Trump Jr. set up the meeting after being contacted via email by music publicist Robert Goldstone, who promised dirt on Clinton and mentioned Russian government support for Donald Trump.

Denis Katsyv, pictured, the businessman son of a senior Moscow official, spearheaded the lobbying campaign against the U.S. "Magnitsky Act" that has hurt his financial interests. "It was a totally normal request for anyone who could be of any help in Congress to let congresspeople know what had truly happened to Mr. Browder in Russian Federation", she told the Rossiya 24 television channel.

The meeting "had nothing to do with [then-candidate Donald Trump's] rivals or the presidential election", she added. "That never happened. That's not true".

Inter Milan Sporting Director Piero Ausilio reveals Ivan Perisic's contract renewal talks
Perisic enjoyed a fine season in Serie A with Inter, scoring 11 goals and adding 11 assists in 36 games. He has a long term contract but we still want to offer him a new one, we want him to stay with us".

After CNN's Alisyn Camerota asked Podesta if Clinton is surprised how often the Trump administration refers to her since the election has been over for more than nine months.

When probed, he admitted that such an offer had been made but dismissed Veselnitskaya's information as not "meaningful", saying it "made no sense".

"They don't want the truth there at the moment, they need an enemy", she said.

Veselnitskaya was reported to have links to the Kremlin, an allegation she has flatly denied.

In the interview, Veselnitskaya said she had not once been invited to U.S. Congress hearings to tell her story, calling the investigations politically motivated.

Veselnitskaya's meeting with Trump Jr. will be a major focus, the newspaper reported. "Some because they are looking to undermine Trump, some because they want to fuel the conflict with Russian Federation".
