After a span of 20 years, a Hindu politician, Darshan Lal, is set to take the role of a cabinet minister in Pakistan.
He will be heading coordination between four provinces, The Times of India reported. Lal is a practising doctor from Mirpur Mathelo town in Ghotki district of Sindh. He finally spoke last week, after postponing the talk twice, to announce that he would be resigning from his National Assembly seat and his ministry on the day of the Panamagate verdict because his "heart was no longer in politics".
Former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, while speaking in a jalsa in his constituency on Friday, said he will soon reveal the reason he did not join Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi's cabinet. But no decision appears to have yet been made by the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party over whether Abbasi will stay as premier or step down after a brief period to make way for Sharif's brother Shahbaz, as outlined previously.
Khawaja Mohammed Asif, former defence minister, will be the new foreign minister.

"It's a massive cabinet", said Pakistani writer and analyst Zahid Hussain. But he retains control of PML-N and put forward Abbasi as temporary prime minister until Shahbaz becomes eligible to take over by winning a parliamentary by-election.
