During the meeting، Abdullah expressed his condolences to the families of the two Jordanians killed in the incident.

On Sunday, the guard shot dead Jordanian teenager Mohammad Jawawdah at Israel's embassy in Amman as well as the landlord of the house in the compound where the guard lived.

"I think we have to look now at the broader picture and take into account what happened in Jordan and what is going on Temple mount and to combine those two problems", he said. Israel's Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying that the security guard had diplomatic immunity and that it was working with Jordanian authorities. It said one of the workers, later identified as a 17-year-old of Palestinian origin, attacked an Israeli security guard with a screwdriver.

The king added that Netanyahu needed to "honor his responsibilities and take the necessary legal measures to ensure that the killer is tried and justice is served, rather than exhibiting political showmanship in dealing with this crime to score personal political points".

Following the incident, a tape of a telephone call between Netanyahu, the ambassador in Amman and the guard went viral, in which the Israeli prime minister voiced his pride over the way the embassy staffer handled the situation.

Spokesman Micky Rosenfeld says the move comes after security assessments show Palestinians plan protests at the holy compound Friday.

Israel and Jordan signed a peace deal in 1994, but the agreement remains deeply unpopular in the kingdom where many residents are of Palestinian origin.

The metal detectors were removed early Tuesday morning.

The Israeli ambassador, Einat Shlein, and embassy staff also returned to Israel after the killings and a Jordanian official confirmed to Agence France-Presse on Friday that they would not be allowed to return to Amman until the incident had been properly investigated.

Muslim religious leaders claim Israel is trying to expand its control at the site under the guise of security, a claim Israel denies.

Mr. Sabri said newly installed security cameras, described in media reports as a possible alternative to the metal detectors, were discussed.

On Thursday, the Jordanian monarch called on Netanyahu to try the guard, who travelled home on Monday night with other embassy officials after being briefly questioned by Jordanian investigators.
