Right-wing terrorists thrash Muslim man on suspicion of carrying beef

There has been a rise in incidents of mob violence in the name of cow, considered holy by many Hindus.

A 31-year-old man was allegedly thrashed by a group of persons in Nagpur on the suspicion of carrying beef, a police official said on Thursday.

According to police, the victim, identified as Ismail Shah, was travelling on his two wheeler when the accused stopped him on his way and alleged that Shah was carrying beef. The report further added that all accused belong to Prahar Sangathan. "We had received the complaint yesterday". We have arrested four people. "We are still investigating the case".

The SP said the meat has been seized and sent to a forensic lab in Nagpur for testing.

The incident that reportedly took place on July 12 when some people in Bharsingi district started assaulted the man while the people around him continue to watch. However, the police claimed that Junaid was killed due to an altercation over seat, not beef.

Days later that horrific incident, a 200-strong mob beat up a Muslim man and set his house on fire after a dead cow was found outside his home in Jharkhand's Giridih district.

Cow vigilantism seems to rear its ugly head nearly regularly despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying "Killing people in the name of Gau Bhakti is not acceptable. This is not something Mahatma Gandhi would approve of", said Modi.
