On Friday, South Korean President Moon Jae-in inspected the test-launch of a mid-range missile that is being developed by its military. Defense officials and the domestic news media said the missile could fly up to 497 miles - the maximum ballistic missile range allowed under a deal with the United States.

"President Moon said that in the upcoming summit, he shall not cling to the outcome of individual agendas but rather focus on building up friendship and trust with President Donald Trump", said Cheong Wa Dae spokesperson Park Soo-hyun in a briefing.

US-led United Nations forces battled Chinese and Soviet-backed North Korea in the war, which ended with a truce on July 27, 1953.

North Korea has accused the US of escalating tensions with its actions and refers to its own missile launch tests as measures to safeguard its country, while Washington believes the joint military drills with Seoul are important to safeguard against any North Korean threat. He died days after being evacuated home, sparking outrage in the US.

THAAD was approved by Moon's ousted predecessor, conservative President Park Geun-Hye, who then steamrollered the project through a hasty environmental review during her last months in office as she became ensnared in a massive corruption scandal.

The news comes amid rising tensions between Washington and Pyongyang over the North's nuclear ambitions, BBC reported.

The two Koreas made a joint entrance in the 2000 Summer Sydney Olympics but never formed a united team for the global sporting event. The written statement came shortly after a separate group of senators announced a resolution welcoming the visit of the South Korean state chief.

Schiff: Obama should have done more on Russia
The State Department wrote back to the lawmakers a month later, after Hillary Clinton's stinging loss to Donald Trump . Russian President Vladimir Putin , left, speaks with then- U.S.

He was speaking after South Korea's sports minister was quoted as saying some skiing events for the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics could be held in North Korea, although officials insist he was misunderstood.

"President Trump and I have a common goal - that is the complete dismantlement of North Korea's nuclear program and the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula", he said".

After observing the live-fire test launch, Moon said that "the South Koreans would be satisfied with this launch, ' after a series of North Korean missile tests conducted this year".

Since the swearing-in of Moon as president, there have been some concerns that the plan to install the anti-missile battery here may undergo setbacks.

Mr. Moon has since put further THAAD deployment on ice pending a full environmental impact study while, at the same time, chastising his defense staff for allegedly not advising him that further deployments were planned.

Since his election, however, Mr. Moon has sought to dispel misgivings that his government would weaken that relationship, repeatedly emphasizing its importance.

"We heard the comments that were made by the sports, culture and tourism minister and we take it very seriously".
