First-time major winners have now won the last seven major tournaments, starting with Australian Jason Day's breakthrough at the PGA Championship, back in August of 2015.
Going over to play the Challenge Tour was really, really cool. I'll go anywhere. And some of the places we went to were pretty neat. "It gives me the confidence that I didn't play as good as I would like to".
Third in the 2014 Dubai Desert Classic in January and the European Masters, he then captured the rich Turkish Airlines Open to finish eighth on the Race to Dubai and be voted European Tour Rookie of the Year.
I've been trying to win so badly. "But it's a totally different feel and atmosphere than what I just did here this week". Obviously I need to do that more often. Right before I won the final Challenge Tour event to get to the European Tour.
BROOKS KOEPKA, on his frustrations.
"I'd won once on the PGA Tour, once on the European Tour".
"I scrapped a little bit for it, and it was a bit soft but I felt fine". I put myself in some good chances over the majors over the last few years and never really quite came through.
Yet win 'em is exactly what Koepka says he intends to do.
"I just felt like I should be winning more".
His friends and professional support team preached patience.
CBO Set to Release Analysis of Senate Healthcare Bill Monday
Pennsylvania Senator Pat Toomey appeared on Sunday's Face the Nation backing up the Senate Republican health care bill. He can afford to lose the support of only two Republicans in the face of unanimous Democratic opposition.
Defending champion Johnson will aim to bounce back from a lacklustre three-over-par 75 when he tees off alongside Jordan Spieth and Martin Kaymer in the afternoon session.
"If I could do it over again, I'd play baseball-100 percent, no doubt", Koepka said.
Fowler took the lead on Thursday with a 7-under 65, tying the lowest score to par in the first round of the U.S. Open. "Just keep doing what you're doing, you're going to win the thing, and just don't get ahead of yourself". It's something I've enjoyed but I also like to get away from the golf course.
"It was a long phone call".
It all came together this week as his patient globe-trotting apprenticeship finally paid off. But a closer look at the course, particularly the lush rough, and the possibility of windy conditions led him to remove his Cobra F6 Baffler 5-wood and replace it with a King Forged CB 2-iron.
"I thought the way my game sets up I think I can win multiple times a year, I really do". Japan's Hideki Matsuyama and American Brian Harman tied for second, at 12 under, with Britain's Tommy Fleetwood in fourth place at 11 under. Only six players had ever reached double digits under par in the previous 116 times at the U.S. Open.
He also jumped from fourth to a career-high second in the world rankings behind Johnson. "They've got no fear and they're gutsy players, and they're little bulldogs and they're just relentless". "No regrets", he told reporters through an interpreter.
While Koepka jokes his victory will "hopefully make up for" the Father's Day card he didn't get his dad, there's no doubt in his mind there will be opportunities for further celebrations.
After his maiden title in America, he stated: "You know, I want to be the best player in the world".
