Sandy Hook families criticize Megyn Kelly interview with conspiracy theorist

The group can not support Kelly or NBC's decision to give a platform to Jones and hopes NBC reconsiders its plan to broadcast the interview, said Nicole Hockley, co-founder and managing director.

The network has been taken aback by the response to booking Jones, the "Infowars" host who has questioned whether the killing of 26 people in 2012 at the school in Newton, Connecticut, was a hoax.

Kelly told The Associated Press on Tuesday, June 13 that she respects Sandy Hook Promise's decision to drop her from a Wednesday event in Washington, but is disappointed.

Megyn Kelly has tried to defend the interview, claiming that she is trying to "shine a light" on not only Jones' risky hoax narrative, but also on President Trump's seeming approval of Jones' work on Infowars.

JP Morgan Chase said it has pulled advertising from NBC News until the Jones interview airs on Sunday.

"I'm calling for @megynkelly to cancel the airing of our interview for misrepresenting my views on Sandy Hook", he tweeted Monday afternoon, along with a 41-minute YouTube video.

Kelly has also faced backlash from the Sandy Hook Promise organization, which works to prevent gun violence.

Watch the controversial interview on Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly, Sunday at 7 p.m. EST on NBC. "How would you feel if someone shot your kids, some fool said it wasn't true - and I gave him a show?"

Kelly, who left Fox News earlier this year, is scheduled to begin hosting a daily morning shift on NBC during the "Today" show this fall. "I couldn't believe it at first", Jones said on his radio show in 2014.

He said he expected a "rigged" report because a day's worth of interviews will be boiled down to an 11-minute report.

- Megyn Kelly defended her decision to feature "Infowars" host Alex Jones on her NBC newsmagazine despite taking heat Monday from families of Sandy Hook shooting victims and others, saying it's her job to "shine a light" on newsmakers. He also called on NBC not to broadcast the interview, and described the host as cold and robotic.

Mr Jones has repeated his comments, including about what he says never happened at the elementary school in CT, when he gave an interview to NBC's Megyn Kelly. Several have tweeted at Kelly to let her know she is promoting someone who has caused hurt to their families.

The nonprofit's decision follows days of criticism denouncing the interview, which many see as an opportunity to give Jones a legitimate platform to voice his conspiracy theories. "They're scared of what we're covering", he said.
